Plucky hen Ginger and the flock from Tweedy’s Farm have found sanctuary on a peaceful island. Ginger and rooster Rocky are now proud parents, and they’re living their ‘nest’ lives. But back on the mainland, chicken-kind faces a new threat, and Ginger must hatch an eggs-it strategy!

Now you can recreate the latest chick flick – in crochet! Eggs-pert author Sarah-Jane Hicks puts the ‘hook’ into ‘chook’ with 11 easy-to-follow patterns to make Ginger, Rocky, Babs and Bunty, and more!

In this crafty companion title to the highly-anticipated sequel to Chicken RunChicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, to be released on Netflix – Sarah-Jane Hicks skilfully demonstrates how to form the fabulous flock, including returning characters Ginger, Rocky, Babs, Bunty and the popular rats, Nick and Fetcher.

There are 11 makes in all, and detailed instructions and techniques for creating each one. The characters range from between 4½ and 9½in (10.5 and 24cm) tall, great for little hands to hold, or perfect to prop up on a bookshelf!

Don't be chicken: be more Babs, and whip up a storm with your yarns, just in time to enjoy the film of the year!
LIBRARY JOURNAL

Hicks (All-New Twenty To Make: Animal Granny Squares) presents crocheted amigurumi characters from the sequel to the beloved UK stop-motion animated film Chicken Run. Included in this guide are all the chicken characters, of course, plus Nick, Fletcher, and the villainous Mrs. Tweedy. The finished products range from four to nine inches. No skill level is included in the book, though there is a comprehensive section on stitching techniques, easy-to-follow images, and special instructions for adding details with chain stitch and surface crochet. Each pattern provides close-up images of stitches and completed figures. Hicks has written the patterns specifically for cotton yarn, which creates a sturdy structure with good stitch delineation. She indicates that acrylic or wool could be used as substitutes, though this may slightly change the size of the figures. Readers should note that the patterns in the book are written using UK crochet terms, but there’s a handy UK-to-U.S. term conversion table.

VERDICT Something a little different from standard amigurumi crocheted characters and books. A must for crafty fans and collectors of whimsical Chicken Run memorabilia.
Sarah-Jane Hicks has always enjoyed crochet and crafting in her spare time. She was taught to crochet as a child by her mum and nan. Previously she worked as a tax adviser and is now a freelance crochet designer. She has had patterns published in various popular craft and crochet magazines. She has over 42K followers on her Instagram account: @flo_and_dot, and her blog can be seen at: floanddot.blogspot.com. Sarah-Jane lives in Norfolk in the UK.
