A hilarious trivia game about Black language and its impact on culture, from the NAACP award-winning authors of Historically Black Phrases

In Watch Ya' Mouth jarrett hill and Tre’vell Anderson, authors, journalists, and hosts of the award-winning podcast FANTI, offer a game rich with humor and cultural precision about Black phrases and entertainment that shape our conversations.

With two rounds of play focused on different kinds of trivia, there’s something in here for everyone. In the Look Back at It trivia round, you try to answer as many questions correctly as possible. Then the Watch Yo Mouth round is a word association game and you try to describe a Historically Black Phrase without using any of the predetermined “cuss words.”

See how you stack up with questions like "Name the two late rappers who were at the center of hip hop's East coast/West coast rivalry." Then see how long it takes you to describe a phrase like "code switch" without saying "language," "speak," "change it up," and "at work."

With 280 questions, 10 wild cards, and the included rules booklet, you can play in teams, or just enjoy the cards as conversation starters. From trivia about Black athletes, movies, and music to cards that ask you to describe phrases like “feelin’ yourself,” “don’t get it twisted,” and “pop off,” this game playfully covers all aspects of Black culture.
jarrett hill (he/him) is an award-winning journalist, sought-after host, moderator, and writer.
