Inside this box are 50 creative, kid-friendly prompts to help kids jump into play through screen-free time. Each card is just a starting point—a spark that encourages kids to take an idea and make it their own, whether they’re creating something new, building something big, or dreaming up a whole world of pretend.

These fun activity cards are designed to spark play and help kids forget the word “bored” ever existed. They can dive in on their own (with optional supervision!) or invite others to join the fun. With no rules and simple materials found around the house, each card is an open invitation to get creative and let imaginations run wild.

Keep the cards on the kitchen counter, bring them to playdates, or pull them out during spring break or a rainy afternoon. Organized into categories such as Create, Build, Play, Explore, and Give, they make it easy to match any mood—whether kids want to get crafty, get moving, or share the fun. Best of all, the activities use everyday items you already have, so play can start right away.

You’ll find activity ideas such as:
  • Draw your own comic book characters, then fold a piece of paper into six and fill in the grid with a hilarious story.
  • Use blankets, sheets, and pillows to make a cozy cave in your room for reading or listening to music.
  • Make a school for your stuffed animals. Set up a classroom and teach your favorite subject.
Compendium, an imprint of the Crown Publishing Group, creates gift books, journals, greeting cards, keepsakes, and award-winning children's books—designed to inspire connection, spark meaningful moments, and celebrate the relationships that matter most.

Caytlyn Cole Tolliver is a designer, photographer, and creative based in Washington State. Her work combines craft and digital processes. When offline you can find her thrifting, taking photos of everything, painting, traveling, or outside in the garden with her husband, Jordan, their dog, Finnley, and their bunny named Moo.
