A girl and her dog are happier than two buttons on a new shirt―until her new baby brother shows up. A rip-roarin' sibling tale perfect for story time!

Rodeo Red and her hound Rusty are happier than two buttons on a new shirt—until Sideswiping Slim shows up.

Red is sure that anyone who hollers that much will be hauled to the edge of town and told to skedaddle, but her parents seem smitten with the new addition to the family. So when that scallywag sets his eye on Rusty, Rodeo Red had better figure out a way to save her best friend in the whole world. Can a cowgirl make a bargain with a varmint?

Author Maripat Perkins pairs Old West lingo with big laughs to tell this laugh-out-loud sibling story. Adorable illustrations by Caldecott Honor winner Molly Idle add to the fun.
"Old West lingo gives voice to the old story of sibling rivalry sparked by a new baby. . . . Giddy-up, big sisters!" —Kirkus Reviews

"A good choice for a favorite young cowpoke." —Publishers Weekly

★ "Playfully spirited and upbeat. . . a rootin'-tootin' tale that won't fail to quick-draw a smile." —Booklist, Starred Review

"Perfect for reading aloud, it will have even the most die-hard Yankee speaking with a Texas drawl." —School Library Journal
Maripat Perkins is a former Montessori teacher who lives in Michigan with her plum peach of a family and a few rascally varmints.

Molly Idle is the author and illustrator of the Caldecott Honor-winning picture book Flora and the Flamingo, as well as many other titles. Prior to leaping into the world of children's book illustration, she worked with DreamWorks Feature Animation Studios. She lives in Arizona.
