Experience the indivisibility of appearance and emptiness through the living tradition of the Heart Sutra, guided by authentic Vajrayana insight and heartfelt practice.

The Heart Sutra, taught by the Buddha on Vulture Peak Mountain, is the most recited and contemplated text in Mahayana Buddhist history. Anyen Rinpoche and Allison Choying Zangmo invite readers beyond recitation into the heart of practices as it is lived in Tibet. In these pages, the elusive dance between form and emptiness becomes deeply personal—accessible, rigorous, and urgently relevant.

This book exposes a startling truth: the Buddha’s teaching on emptiness is not abstract philosophy—it is a practical tool for dismantling blame, transforming karmic momentum, dispelling obstacles to practice, and severing the root of suffering itself. Drawing on the lineage of these teachings in Tibet, including the yogas of appearance, emptiness, and indivisibility, this commentary unfolds the subtle layers of the perfection of wisdom through stories, direct instructions, and critical reflection.
ANYEN RINPOCHE is a recognized tulku of the Longchen Nyingthig lineage within the Nyingma tradition. Born and raised in Amdo, Tibet, he trained extensively in the lineage practices and scholarship of the Longchen Nyingthig and especially the practice of Atiyoga Dzogchen under his root lama Kyabje Tsara Dharmakirti Rinpoche. Founder of the Orgyen Khandroling Dharma Center in Denver, Colorado, Anyen Rinpoche is known for his deep spiritual insight and accessible teaching style. He is the author of many books, often in collaboration with his wife and translator, Allison Choying Zangmo, including The Union of Dzogchen and Bodhichitta, Stop Biting the Tail You’re Chasing, The Tibetan Yoga of Breath, and The Flowing River of Dharma. He is also founder of the Phowa Foundation, which focuses on helping people prepare for a peaceful and conscious death.

ALLISON CHOYING ZANGMO is Anyen Rinpoche’s spiritual partner, personal translator, and collaborator. She has received extensive Buddhist training, including empowerments and teachings from various prominent Tibetan masters such as Khenchen Tsara Dharmakirti Rinpoche, Tulku Rolpai Dorje, and Denpai Wangchuk. With Anyen Rinpoche’s encouragement, she began teaching through the Orgyen Khandroling Dharma Center in Denver, Colorado, in 2017, and now plays a vital role in bringing the dharma to a Western audience. She is coauthor with Anyen Rinpoche of Stop Biting the Tail You’re Chasing, The Tibetan Yoga of Breath, and The Flowing River of Dharma, and has assisted him with many other titles.
