How to Use This Journal

If you have read A Million Little Miracles and are familiar with its contents, this journal is for you. And if you have gone above and beyond to read the accompanying study guide as well, then this journal is definitely for you! Allow me to explain the structure of this book.

There are forty days in this journal. Why? Because so many transitions and transformations in Scripture happen during a forty-day process. You might have taken a forty-day prayer challenge or gone through one of the books of the Bible in forty days. This journal is a forty-day journey into the millions of miracles that are all around you.

The experience of working through the content over a period of forty days will help you cultivate a habit of thinking about God, your relationship with Him, and your place in His wondrous world. But listen, there is no exact right way to work through this journal, so don’t sweat it if it takes you a little—or a lot—longer than forty days. The point is to connect with God and grow in gratitude.

Rather than acting as a study guide for A Million Little Miracles, this journal gives you an opportunity to write down and record some of your unique thoughts and feelings. “Until it’s on paper,” said Sir John Hargrave, “it’s vapor.”

Are you taking things for gratitude or are you taking things for granted? When was the last time you felt childlike wonder? What are some of your favorite parts of God’s creation?

These are some of the questions you’ll reflect on as you work through this journal.

Each day is divided into four sections. In the first section, there will be a Bible passage along with a question to prompt your writing. The second and third sections will include more questions along with quotes from the book. There is no right or wrong way to answer the questions. This is your journal, so write down whatever you want! The key is to put your thoughts onto paper. In the last section of each day, you are encouraged to think or do something differently. Call it an action step.

The goal of this journal is to help you experience God’s miracles in a new and fresh way. God is “able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us” (Ephesians 3:20). My hope is that the eyes of your heart will be opened anew to the God who is bigger than big, closer than close, and gooder than good. And as you’re experiencing this, you are writing down your thoughts along the way!
